With Week 1 just days away, excitement is building all over Genesee County for the first live game action of the season. Following a successful 2013, the Attica Blue Devils enter this year with high expectations within the GR, and hope to work their way into becoming one of the best teams in the league by seasons end.

Returning for the Blue Devils this year, four key Seniors will take on large roles on both sides of the ball under head coach Rob Cusmano.

To begin with, Jake Strzelec will play his final season for Attica in 2014, following an All-League season a year ago. The 6’1″, 200 pound running back/linebacker will certainly pack a punch at the line of scrimmage and is likely to add to his impressive track record, after gaining over 500 yards in a backup role last season.

Adam Weber and Phil Wilshire will join Strzelec as catalysts of the defense, as both will look to provide the Blue Devils with a solid line of defense up front. Both Weber and Wilshire, like Strzelec, are returning All-League selections and check in at 6’2″ and 230 pounds a piece.

Rounding out the list of key Senior pieces for Attica, Derek Walker will line up on the outside on both offense and defense, for what will be his third year as a Varsity starter. Walker is a 5’11” 180 pound athlete, who has the ability to change the game on both sides of the ball.

Joining the upperclassmen, Juniors Damien Marchetti and Alex Piechocki will play key roles on offense for the Blue Devils during 2014.

Marchetti, the quarterback, comes back to lead the Attica offense for the second consecutive year while Piechoki also brings experience to the tight end position. Piechocki, who stands 6’5″ tall and weighs 225 pounds will also join Weber and Wilshire on the defensive line.

After a scrimmage with Alden out of Section VI this past week, Attica will be looking ahead to a very difficult matchup with Holley this weekend. If the Blue Devils can get on a roll early in the season, despite the difficult GR schedule which presents a tough task each week, I believe the sky is the limit for this bunch.

Stay tuned all season long for continued coverage of the Attica Blue Devils football program!!
