Key Players: Jake Strzelec (Attica); Nick Shadbolt (Attica); Josh Hylkema (Alexander); Ricky Amico (Alexander); Tyler Laird (Alexander)

In what I expect to be a knock-down, drag out ballgame, the Blue Devils (2-0) and Trojans (1-1) square off tonight at 7:00 in Alexander. After a couple of convincing victories a week ago each side comes into this one with confidence, and expects to put forth their best effort when the whistle is blown.

Leading the charge for the Attica Blue Devils, Jake Strzelec enters tonight’s contest with an incredible first two weeks under his belt. Running all over their first two opponents, Strzelec and fellow running back Nick Shadbolt have given the Devils something to hang their hat on and will be given every opportunity to continue their strong play this week versus the Trojans.

In order to slow down the impressive duo of Strzelec and Shadbolt, Alexander’s defensive front must step up to the plate, get penetration into the backfield, and throw bodies at the two backs before they reach the next level. Leading the effort will be Josh Hylkema and Ricky Amico, who have led the Trojans in the trenches this season, as well as linebacker Derrick Bush who had 5 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception last week versus Notre Dame. Tyler Laird will also play an important role at the linebacker position.

In my opinion, whether or not the Alexander defense can break through and deliver an epic performance this evening will decide the game. With Attica showing the ability to light up the scoreboard during the first two weeks while Alexander struggled to put points up during Week 2, if the Trojans are unable to slow down their opponent’s vaunted rushing attack early in the game, this one could wind up rather lopsided.

However, I believe Alexander can stick with Attica for 48 minutes, and will present the Blue Devils with their most difficult challenge of the young season.

Despite all this, give me Attica in a close one.
