With Friday night came some incredible basketball games all over Section V. Here is what took place in the two local girls games:

Class A2 – Batavia 46 Geneva 37 – McCulley and Filbert propel Devils with big second half

The Batavia Girls Basketball team found themselves on the brink of elimination on Friday night as they trailed Geneva 26-19 with just 2:57 left during the third quarter. However, strong second half performances from Madison McCulley and Tiara Filbert were just enough for the Devils to come back and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

In total, the dynamic duo combined for 23 of their team’s 31 points (McCulley 3 fourth quarter three-balls) over the course of the second half, and wound up outscoring the Panthers (19 second half points) by themselves. It was a huge win for Batavia, as they now move on to face Pittsford Mendon this Tuesday at Penfield HS – tip off scheduled for 8:00 pm.

Class D1 – Elba 70 Lyndonville 38 – Lancers ease past the Tigers behind big days from ‘big three’

Elba had no trouble advancing past Lyndonville on Friday night, as the Lancers used double-digit days from Alyssa Bogue, Haley Brown, and Alex Reigle in order to move into the semis of D1. They are now set to face a tough Arkport team, who upset #3 Fillmore just last night.

“We didn’t settle tonight for bad shots,” said Elba head coach Tom Redband about his team’s performance on Friday. “All the girls attacked and were very unselfish.”

He also mentioned the upcoming matchup with Arkport.

“Arkport is very athletic and play hard,” said Elba head coach Tom Redband about his team’s next opponent. “We will need to be sharper and fast on defense.”

Elba’s semifinal game against the Blue Jays is schedule for March 3rd at 6:00 pm (site not listed on Section V Site).
