At a glance:
Players to watch:
Batavia
QB Greg Mruczek
Mruczek has put forth a fine season thus far in 2015, and will likely have to continue to shine if his team is to advance to 5-0. Last week, the Senior QB went 7/13 with 3 touchdown passes in Batavia’s win over Edison Tech – one of which went to his younger brother Andrew.
RB /LB Dom Mogavero
Perhaps the most-important player on this Batavia team, Mogavero will likely be called upon to carry a heavy load out of both the offensive and defensive backfields in this game. In last season’s matchup between the two teams, he went for 21 carries for 84 yards and 1 touchdown.
Penn Yan
QB Tanner Irwin
Irwin was 8/12 for 135 yards and 3 touchdowns last week vs Waterloo, and also carried the ball 12 times for 117 yards and a score. Like Mruczek is for Batavia, Irwin is a big part of the Mustangs’ attack.
DB Austin Fingar
Fingar could cause some trouble for Batavia’s passing game, as the PY defensive back recorded 2 interceptions last weekend vs Waterloo. He also performed well vs Newark earlier this season – a game in which he recorded 13 tackles and an interception to boot.
Prediction:
After reviewing all of the materials from this season and last, I believe this game will live up to all of the hype that surrounds it. However, I am forecasting the same result as a season ago.
Batavia simply has too many key players returning following a season in which they beat up on the Mustangs in the semi final game in Class B. Due to that fact, I see the Blue Devils walking away as the victor at game’s end.
Give me Batavia in this one.
