Tonight at Genesee Community College, the first round of the Batavia Rotary Club’s Girls Basketball Tournament will take place beginning at 6:00 pm. The first round matchups this year will be Notre Dame vs Attica, and Batavia vs Cal-Mum – which should provide for some interesting drama as neither Cal-Mum and Attica have participated in the tournament for over ten years and both should be raring to go come tip-off tonight.

Here is a short preview of tonight’s action:

Attica vs Notre Dame

Key Players

Rebecca Krenzer - Notre Dame

Rebecca is a solid force down low for the Irish and will certainly be tough to stop for the Blue Devils tonight. With the ability to both put the ball in the basket on offense, while also protecting the hoop on the defensive end, I would say Krenzer will be the toughest player to stop in this matchup tonight.

Kierra Perl - Attica

Perl is also a highly-talented player with ability on either end of the court. As Krenzer is for Notre Dame, Perl is also perhaps the most-talented player on this Blue Devils team and must have a good game tonight for her team to upset the Irish and move to the title game.

Outlook

Although the Irish and Devils have yet to square-off this season, each side will enter this game knowing full well what the other brings to the table – being league opponents. However, with that being said I expect a great game tonight that should be competitive throughout. All that being said, I do believe the Irish will come out on top and advance to face the winner of Batavia and Cal-Mum.

Prediction

Notre Dame 46 Attica 40

Batavia vs Cal-Mum

Key Players

Madison McCulley and Tiara Filbert - Batavia

Madison and Tiara have been the driving forces behind this Batavia team for quite some time. Possessing great ability both offensively and defensively, this dynamic duo may just be too much for teams to stop in this tournament.

Gill Flint - Cal-Mum

Flint, from my perspective, is the most dangerous of all the talented players on this Red-Raiders team. Coming off of a Sectional Championship a season ago, this team won’t be an easy out for Batavia this year.

Outlook

Although Cal-Mum is highly talented with plenty of solid athletes at each position, their ability to put the ball in the basket has been rather suspect this season – with no game proving this fact more than the Raiders game vs Le Roy two nights ago. In said game, the Raiders simply could night find the basket for much of the second and third quarter. If that happens tonight, Batavia – who scored 71 points the other night vs Sutherland – might run away with this one.

Prediction

Batavia 60 Cal-Mum 52
