Wellsville lost to Wayland-Cohocton by two points last weekend, as the Lions struggled to find the end zone and played sloppy football on both sides of the ball. The final score between Livingston County opponents was 8-6, which Wellsville will certainly have to improve upon when they line up across from the Blue Devils.

In their game against Way-Co, as I said before, the Lions played ugly football. Slugging it out with Way-Co for four quarters, several missed snaps, false starts, and bad penalties filled the duration of the game. Despite the rough play at times, Wellsville displayed the potential to play sound football if they are able to find a way to limit all of the miscues.

To keep this short, I truly believe Batavia will have their breakout performance tonight at Van Detta Stadium. Following a great effort against Livonia last weekend, and with what I expect to be an inferior opponent coming to town, the Blue Devils should take care of business against the Lions.

In order to do so Batavia will have to get going early while getting leading receiver Malachi Chenault involved extensively throughout the first quarter. To go along with the importance of Chenault’s involvement, is the presence of the Batavia running game.

Producing relatively unimpressive results versus the Bulldogs, the ground attack of the Blue Devils is in need of a huge improvement in Week 2. Starting with the offensive line, head coach Brennan Briggs expects his team to put forth a better effort on the ground after working extensively during this week of practice.

With many teams in Batavia’s league not showing much in terms of dominance during the first few games of the season, this could be the year for Batavia football. If the Blue Devils can do what they are supposed to within the league, while treading water against tough opponents such as Geneva and Livonia, they will be just fine and will sit well heading into the Sectional playoffs.

Stay tuned tomorrow morning for the post game report.
