notre dame @ elba football - 1 (10)In a battle of the unbeaten yesterday afternoon, the Notre Dame Football team moved to 3-0 with a big win over the previously unbeaten Elba/Byron-Bergen Lancers. A game that started slow, finished fast for the Irish – who walked away with the 29-8 victory.

Here is a brief scoring summary:

11:54 – 2nd Quarter: Jack Sutherland scores for Notre Dame from six yards out. PAT from Larry Infantino is good (7-0 ND)

3:06 – 2nd Quarter: Elba’s Richard Flores crosses the goal line on a 36-yard reception from John Hochmuth. Two-point conversion run in by Robert Stevens (8-7 Elba/B-B)

1:51 – 2nd Quarter: Jack Sutherland scampers 55 yards for the Irish in order to score his second touchdown of the day, and regain the lead for his team. Two-point conversion from Logsdon-Sutherland was successful (15-8 ND)

10:10 – 3rd Quarter: Peter Daversa runs it in for Notre Dame from about 11 yards out. PAT from Infantino was good (22-8 ND)

7:15 – 4th Quarter: Jack Sutherland with another long touchdown run, this time of 61 yards. PAT from Infantino was good (29-8) – FINAL

notre dame @ elba football - 1 (42)All in all, this game was dominated by the Irish who, despite falling behind 8-7 for a very short time during the first half, stifled Elba/B-B on both sides of the ball for the duration of the contest on Saturday. Final stats for Elba/B-B offensively (according to Notre Dame stat department):

Total Offense: 111 yards (Passing 78; Rushing 33)

Punts: 7

First Downs: 6

Third Down Conversions/Attempts: 4/15 (Irish were 1/9)

As you can see, the Lancers found offensive consistency extremely difficult to come by on Saturday afternoon and fell to the Irish as a result. On the other hand, Notre Dame found a way to work through early struggles against a stout Elba/B-B defense, and come out on the other side victorious. Final stats for Notre Dame:

Total Offense: 285 yards

First Downs: 12

Punts: 4

Yards Per Play: 6.6 (Lancers finished with 2.6 ypp)

notre dame @ elba football - 1 (58)Leading the way for the Irish was once again Jack Sutherland, who amassed 205 yards on the ground on 22 totes (a 9.3 avg.), while also crossing the goal line 3 times for scores. Peter Daversa also had a fine game on the ground for ND – totaling 47 yards on 7 carries and a touch. Defensively, Ethan Osbourne filled up the stat sheet for Notre Dame with 5 tackles (3 of which went for a loss), and a sack to boot.

For Elba/B-B in defeat, Richard Flores ran for 42 yards on 13 carries, as well as making one reception for a 36-yard touchdown from John Hochmuth. Defensively for the Lancers, Andrew Gottler totaled 7 tackles (1 for a loss).

Next up for Elba/Byron-Bergen (2-1) will be another tough matchup, this time on the road vs Oakfield (2-1). For Notre Dame (3-0), they will host Pembroke (0-3) in Week 4.
