It was an exciting night for the Batavia football team as they rolled to an easy victory on their Homecoming night. Putting up over 50 points against the Eagles, everyone seemed to get in on the action in this one, as the Blue Devils put their foot on the gas early on and never showed signs of letting up until the final buzzer sounded.

Beginning Friday’s Contest, Batavia scored just 1:30 into the game. Dom Mogavero, who has really come on for the Blue Devils as of late, scored the game’s first touchdown with 10:26 left to go in the first quarter on a nice run which found the end zone. Shortly after Mogavero’s first score, Wayland Cohocton was forced to punt the ball away on the ensuing possession, and Batavia would capitalize once again.

This time it was Greg Mruczek who found the end zone for the Devils, and with 5:26 remaining in the first quarter the score was already pushed to 12-0. However, Batavia was not done as just two minutes later, Mruczek would record his second touchdown of the night – this time a passing score to scat back Anthony Gallo.

The quick, elusive running back caught a screen in the flat from his QB, and decisively took it 53-yards for the touchdown to put his team ahead 18-0 with 3:28 left in the first quarter – but Batavia was still not finished yet. Capping off an incredible offensive first quarter Mogavero would once again score for the Blue Devils with 2:28 remaining. After the team’s first successful PAT of the night, the score was now 25-0 in favor of the home team which would certainly be enough against the Eagles. Batavia would go on to win 52-0.

Leading the charge for his team offensively last night was Mogavero.

Finishing with just six carries, the hard-nosed running back also completed the night with 105 total yards and two touchdowns. Complimenting Mogavero nicely, Ahdeosun Aiken and Anthony Gallo also had strong nights out of the backfield, accumulating over 200 combined all purpose yards and three scores.

In the passing game Greg Mruczek put forth another admirable performance for the Blue Devils, going 9/10 for 124 yards and two passing touchdowns. Mruczek hit Jerrett Laskett and Gallo with his two passing scores, and also added a rushing touchdown, while Adonis Davis chipped in a rushing touchdown as well. All in all, six different players scored for Batavia, while eight different receivers had receptions.

Along with the strong performance from the Batavia offense throughout the first quarter and beyond, their defense played exceptional as well.

Getting the ball back for their offense in such rapid fashion during the first twelve minutes of the game, the Blue Devils’ front played a dominating game that will not so soon be forgotten. In a match up where their offense scored 52 points, Batavia’s defense didn’t relax for one second. Putting up a shutout over their 48 minutes of play on Friday night, they were also a key reason their team walked away with such an easy victory.

“We clinched a home (Sectional) game,” said Batavia head coach Brennan Briggs after the contest. “It was a total team win tonight. We dominated from snap one, as we should have. We now need to turn the page and get ready for next week.”

In Week 7, the Blue Devils will take on a Bath team who came into this week with an undefeated record.
