The Byron-Bergen Girls Basketball team has fallen on hard times this season after a few years at the top of the GR ladder. However, last night, the Bees had it going vs a tough Elba squad – defeating the Lancers by a final score of 55-46.
“Tonight was by far the best game of the year,” said Byron-Bergen head coach Rick Krzewinski following the game.
Ahead by 6 at the half, and 5 after three quarters, the Bees entered the fourth with a great chance to pull off the upset. To finish things off, they put together a 20-point final quarter in order to walk away with the 9-point victory.
Leading the way for B-B was Dana VanValkenberg, who scored 15 points, while Karson Richenberg and Hailey Hubbard each contributed 13 a piece.
For Elba, Tatiana Draper led all scorers with 16 points, while Emily Reynolds and Madison Howard scored 12 and 10 points respectively in defeat.
