Le Roy head coach Brian Herdlein was nice enough to take a few minutes to answer a few questions heading into their game vs Attica tonight:

AB: This weekend vs a tough Attica team, do you see the line of scrimmage being as important to a victory as I do? In my opinion, whoever controls the game up front will have the best chance of winning this game.

BH: “I think that’s the key when you talk about most football games and who is going to come out on top.  Of course penalties and turnovers always factor in, but in high school football especially, the line of scrimmage is very important.”

AB: Both Attica and Le Roy have endured great success as programs in past years. What would it mean to your team to be able to carry on that tradition of success with an upset win this weekend?

BH: “Our goal every year is to make a run deep into sectionals.  We played a very tough schedule this year and we want all that hard work during the year to pay off come sectional time.”

AB: Where is your team at emotionally as this game approaches? Are they raring to go, or more-so even keel?

BH: “We are in the mindset that it’s win or go home.  We try to prepare the best we can every week so that we are successful.  They are definitely ready to go, but at the same time we can’t let emotions get the best of us which will lead to penalties and mistakes.”

AB: I expect Attica to be absolutely packed on Friday night. Do you think the capacity crowd may play a role in the game? Or is it just business as usual for you guys?

BH: “You like to think that it’s business as usual, but everything is heightened when it comes to playoffs.  We just have to settle into the game quickly and make sure that every player is doing their responsibility.”

AB: Last question, in your first year as head coach, what would getting a Sectional victory under your belt mean to you?

BH: “Win or lose, I just want to feel like as a coaching staff we gave our players the best chance to win the football game.  A win obviously would be great, but not for me, I want it for these players because they put in a lot of hard work throughout the year.”

Tonight, the Le Roy Knights will square-off with the Attica Blue Devils at Attica High School at 7:00 pm. Should be a great game.
