I picked Holley to win this game —— Oops….

The Elba/Byron-Bergen Football team dominated Holley on Saturday by a final score of 60-14. It was a big win for the Lancers – who I picked to lose this game. Boy, was I WAY off.

Although the Hawks were able to jump out to a quick 14-12 lead to begin this game in the first quarter, it was all Elba/B-B from then on out. Scoring the final 48 points of the contest, the Lancers wound up blowing Holley out by game’s end and would walk away with the 46-point victory.

Leading the way for Elba/Byron-Bergen on a rainy Saturday afternoon was tailback Richard Flores, who carried the ball 15 times for 208 yards and 4 total touchdowns (3 rush, 1 KO return TD). After two-consecutive strong performances from Flores, he is quickly turning into one of the GR League’s top-options out of the backfield.

Also running well for Elba/B-B for a second-straight game was Tucker Bezon, who carried the rock just twice for 66 yards – but both of his carries went for touchdowns.

Despite the strong performances for the Lancers out of the backfield, it was the defense that sparked them on Saturday. After giving up two quick scores to begin the game, the Elba/B-B defense put the clamps on and didn’t allow another point the rest of the way.

Next up for the Lancers will be their toughest matchup of the season with league foe Notre Dame. Holley will face CG Finney on the road in Week 3.
