Heading into tonight’s action, here are five things concerning the tournament that you should be on the lookout for:

  1. In the B’s, Holley is the only local team in action tonight – as they take on RCMCS – but aside from the local scene, look out for Greece Odyssey who plays this evening. If they win their game they will move on to face #1 Livonia – with a minor chance of pulling the second round upset.
  2. In Class C1, Pembroke, Alexander, and Byron-Bergen are the local teams in action – with Pembroke possessing the most likely chance of advancing as the #5 seed. However, Byron-Bergen has also played very this season despite drawing the #10 seed, and could have a chance to upset Red Creek.
  3. In C2, Oakfield, Cal-Mum, and Kendall are all in action tonight, with OA being the lone favorite in their respective matchup with Keshequa. Kendall has an uphill battle vs Geneseo, while Cal-Mum has an interesting matchup with Dundee in store for them tonight. Cal-Mum won a Sectional title a season ago, and despite losing plenty to graduation, they do have some talented young players and may have the opportunity to move past their matchup with the Scots in the first round.
  4. In Class D1, Lyndonville, Notre Dame, and Wheatland-Chili all play tonight – and I expect ND and Lyndonville to advance. Wheatland, however, faces Genesee Valley – who I believe will wind up as this classification’s champion.
  5. Finally, take a look at the Batavia’s Best Podcast – which was recorded yesterday. It is the first-ever edition of the Podcast, during which we preview the Section V Boys Basketball Tournament.
