Leading up to the first round of the tournament, here are a few things to keep your eye on.

1. The matchup between Batavia and U Prep features two of the most well-sized lineups I have seen this year. While the Griffins start four players over 6’2″ tall, the Blue Devils start three players standing 6’3″ or above – including Redband who is about 6’7″. Expect each sides’ respective big men to play a major role in this one, as the team who can win the rebounding battle and hold their opponent to a reserved day offensively will likely win the game.

2. While Notre Dame is historically a team known for it’s high-powered offense and ability to shoot the ball from the outside, the Irish have hung their hat on defense in recent years. Developing a solid 2-2-1 press that they use extensively, the Irish began implementing their up-tempo style of play at the JV level a few seasons ago and have carried their approach over to the Varsity level. Although they have found success offensively this year, the Irish defense has really led them to their undefeated start.

3. As a member of Batavia’s JV team just a season ago, this year’s tournament will likely be extra-special for ND’s CJ Suozzi. With the chance of facing his ex-teammates in the finals if they are both to win their first round game, I expect emotions to be running extra high for Suozzi on Tuesday night.

4. Despite participating in the tournament on several occasions, Albion has never reached the finals of the Lions Club Basketball tournament.
