To conclude one of the most-exciting Section V Football seasons in local history, four area squads will play in their respective championship game this evening with three sectional crowns up for grabs. Class B #1 Batavia, Class C #5 Attica, Class D #1 Alexander, and Class D #6 York/Pavilion have all gotten themselves within one step of reaching the mountain top after each of them put forth remarkable 2018 campaigns – but all are looking to eclipse the summit tonight with the ‘block’ in hand.

“The guys are ready for this moment,” said Batavia head coach Brennan Briggs. “They’ve been preparing since early January for this moment.”

I’m sure the other three teams’ head coaches would echo Briggs’ sentiment, the reason being that if you’re a team which has reached this point of the season it’s preparation which got you here and it’s preparation that will give you an opportunity to win on the big stage.

In addition to the level of their preparation, each team’s hunger for victory will also be on display tonight – a trait which Alexander head coach Tim Sawyer says his team has been exhibiting all week.

“It’s very important to (our guys),” said Alexander head coach Tim Sawyer. “We have been very focused this week and are determined to play well tomorrow. We’re eager to get out on the field.”

Both Batavia and Alexander are massive favorites in their respective title games, whereas Attica, and York/Pavilion must each pull off a third-straight upset if they are to come away with a title tonight. With that being said, no matter how things turn out, Y/P head coach Kurt Schneider says the ride has been a lot of fun.

“It’s been great for the kids, and they’ve put in all the hard work,” said Schneider. “The spring football, three nights of work during the summer, the doubles – it’s great to see them earn this success and experience the run we’re on. They’ve put York/Pavilion Football back on the map.”

Speaking of back on the map, an Attica program who has never won a Section V Football title is in relatively uncharted territory tonight, but that won’t stop them from trying to “shock the world” as they have several times already this season.

“I think our guys’ effort speaks for itself,” said Attica head coach Caleb Sabatino about his team’s ability to silence the doubters this season. “Look at the results. Look at what we’re doing.”

Attica will be the first to play tonight, followed by Alexander vs York/Pavilion, and then Batavia. Be sure to tune in throughout the night on Twitter for LIVE updates from the field.

It’s sure to be an exciting night.
