After careful deliberation, here are my top-5 teams in the GR League prior to the beginning of League Play:

5.) Pembroke

Pembroke continues to improve behind a strong core of young players that have developed into solid starters over the past few seasons. In addition, they have one of the top coaches in the GR League in Matt Shay. Look for the Dragons to pull off a few surprise wins this season.

4.) Lyndonville

Lyndonville is solid all-around and has received glowing praise from coaches around the GR League. Also a well-coached group, the Tigers should be in contention for at least a division title deep into the season.

3.) Elba

Under new head coach Ciaci Zambito, the Elba Boys Basketball team is off to a fast start. Their starting-5 can match up with any team in the league and should prove to be a tough out down the stretch.

2.) Notre Dame

The depth of this Irish team is scary, and will be the reason why they contend for a league title at year’s end. With several solid players up and down their roster, they should be able to play a bit different style than we have seen from ND teams in the past – which may help them against the top teams in the GR.

1.) Attica

Attica is – in my opinion – without a doubt the most talented team in the GR League. Sort of like Pembroke, but on a whole other level, the Blue Devils have been building around a group of strong young players for the past few seasons, and all of those players are now upperclassmen and also beginning to come into their own as players. This group should win the league, in my view, but basketball is a funny game.
