A student from Academy Park High School in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania was the subject of quite a story this past week as Mike Brodzinski (a member of the APHS baseball team) was able to save an umpires life during a high school baseball game – using the skills he had learned as a volunteer firefighter.

During the game, following a base hit, Brodzinski realized that one of the base umpires had collapsed on the ground and was writhing with discomfort. Quickly, the student sprung into action.

Almost as quickly as Brodzinski had reached second base, he was immediately on the ground next to the umpire applying CPR until paramedics arrived – which may have saved the umpire’s life. Luckily for the ump, he was able to survive the scare and is currently at the local hospital recovering from an undisclosed complication.

The information was first reported by the Folcroft Borough Darby Fire Company, who posted the story on their Facebook page.

Hopefully for the umpire he recovers quickly. As for Mike, it seems he has found his calling as a Superhero.
