As they begin to prepare for a difficult GR League season, the Oakfield Varsity football team has their sights set on improving upon their 5-4 record from a season ago, as well as capturing a GR League Title. With Junior quarterback Allen Chatt, as well as an experienced offensive line returning in 2014, OA must be confident in their chances.

The Hornets come equipped with Casey Arnold, Devon Schroeder, Ryan Hernandez, and Tyler Hamm in the trenches, along with Ryan Emery and Jon Harris in the backfield; all of which form an offense that Chatt believes can be special.

The amount of teamwork and togetherness on offense, after just one week, is already better than what we had last year,” said the Oakfield QB this week.

Hernandez highlights the O-line, as the two-year starter returns for his third season up front for the Hornets. He will be looking to clear the way for Senior tailback Ryan Emery, who will return for his final season after being out for much of 2013 with an injury. Although Emery was given limited work late last season, he made the most of it and was a real bright spot for Oakfield down the stretch.

To spell Emery, the Hornets possess another good runner in Jon Harris, who will also be returning for his third year on the first unit of OA’s defensive line.

Accompanying Harris up front will be Tyler Hamm, who returns as a starter on both sides of the ball, while Hernandez also returns for his third year as a starter on defense. With Harris, Hamm and Hernandez working together once again this year, OA is certain to possess one of the most experienced offensive and defensive fronts in the GR League.

“Everything starts with the guys up front,” Emery said about the offensive line, “Without them, me and Jon wouldn’t be the players that we are. I have all the trust in the world in those guys.” Emery believes that, with the help of his teammates in the trenches, he and Harris can provide the Oakfield running game with the experience and athleticism that it needs to fulfill its role in the offense.

Chatt happened to agree.

“Ryan and Jon continue to improve every day,” said the Oakfield QB, “We expect both to have pretty good seasons.”

Chatt will accompany Harris and Emery in the backfield, as the Junior quarterback, who has been on Varsity since eighth grade, returns for his third year as the Hornets’ signal caller. “My experience is paying off,” he said this week. “Four years in the same offense goes a long way. I have confidence in my teammates and we couldn’t be more ready.”

All in all, exciting things seem to be on the horizon for the Oakfield football team. With all of the returning starters, and a solid core on both sides of the ball, the Hornets are prime for a load of success in 2014.
