Just this past weekend, Cal-Mum High School enjoyed one of the most exciting, memorable days a school can have throughout the course of a school year. Both their Boys and Girls Basketball teams not only both won Sectional Championships, but they did so just hours apart, with both teams being able to watch the other hoist the trophy from the stands.

cm girls basketball tip off“The double-Title is great,” said C-M girls coach Mike Reed following the big day. “It felt great, it felt like the whole town traveled from Blue Cross to Rush-Henrietta. Then we took both buses back and were greeted by our fans at the monument in the center of the village.”

Boys coach Dan Dickens also commented on how special it was to earn both Boys and Girls C2 Titles.

“Our programs work so well together and both teams went and supported the other and genuinely wanted thecm boys basketball other to win a Title,” he said. “Our student section and community members came out in full-support today.”

Being present at each game this past Saturday, as well as several others for each side throughout the regular season, I was unbelievably impressed with the level of support each program has received from the entire Cal-Mum community. The Raider Regime, as they call it, lives and breathes Red Raider Athletics and, as coach Dickens said, genuinely want each of their teams to capture a title season in and season out.

That’s what it’s all about.

Against Dundee, going back and forth with the Lady Scots for much of the afternoon, the Cal-Mum cheering section seemed to provide their team with true, effective energy throughout the later parts of that game – showing me something I had not seen elsewhere throughout the entire (Boys and Girls) Sectional Tournament. And it seems, not only does the cheering section provide this energy for the teams on the court, but the teams that they cheer for also seem to do the exact same for the fans in the stands.

The Raider Regime loves their team, and the Red Raiders love their fans, and they showed such each time I would venture down Route 5 to one of their games this year, and they even carried it over into the postseason – which is what is truly impressive.

Going forward, I would expect this school’s athletic department to enjoy an incredible amount of extended success over the next couple of seasons, as with championships – comes a championship mentality. And the Raider Regime seems to have it.

Congratulations to both the Boys and Girls basketball teams from Cal-Mum High School, as well as the entire Cal-Mum community on a fantastic year and expected, continued success going forward.
