The Lyndonville Boys Basketball picked up the win of their season on Wednesday night, as the Tigers defeated the Attica Blue Devils – who were previously ranked #1 in my most recent Power 5 Rankings.

The game on Wednesday began with the Tigers grabbing an immediate 10-0 lead over the Devils early in the first quarter. Able to fight back, though, Attica turned that steep deficit around heading into the second quarter, as after one they trailed just 17-13.

During the second, Attica would continue to battle back from their early misfortune, and going into the halftime break they were down by just one point 28-27. That being said, a big third quarter by the Tigers – capped off by a buzzer-beater to end the frame from Eric Neace – put the home team out in front 48-36 with just 8:00 to go in regulation.

The trouble for Attica in the third was without a doubt their ability to put the ball in the basket, as the Devils’ Owen Thompson scored all 9 points for his team during the quarter – which just wasn’t enough to keep up with Lyndonville’s torrid pace.

During the fourth, though, Attica would not go away quietly, as with about 1:00 to they had actually taken a one-point lead. However, using 2 three-pointers from Corey Hydock, Lyndonville was able to regain a lead of 5 points with 1:11 remaining on the clock – which they would protect until the final buzzer, winning the game by a final score of 59-57.

It was such a huge win for the Tigers, from my perspective at least, that it may even vault them back into the Power 5 – where they appeared earlier this season. As for Attica, this is now their third loss since being selected as my top team in the league – which may be enough to shuffle them down a few spots by weeks end.

Either way, games like these are what make GR Basketball so exciting. You never know what may happen.
