Heading into tonight’s Opening Night for the Buffalo Sabres, here are a few last minute notes to take into account as you watch/go to the game:

Gionta out with lower-body injury suffered on Tuesday

RW Brian Gionta will be out for tonight’s game vs Ottawa due to a lower-body injury suffered on Tuesday. According to head coach Dan Bylsma, Gionta could gut it out, but the team chose to err on the side of caution in fear of making the injury week-to-week as opposed to what it is – which is day-to-day.

In Gionta’s stead, the Sabres will choose do adjust as follows:

Line 1 – Matt Moulson, Ryan O’Reilly, Tyler Ennis

Line 2 – Evander Kane, Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart

Bylsma says Reinhart is a player you can fit in anywhere, which is likely the reason why he was chosen to replace Gionta tonight.

Lehner earns the start in net

Newly acquired goaltender Robin Lehner will earn the start in goal tonight in hopes of solidifying his role as the Sabres starting goaltender this season. In addition to the pressure that comes with opening night, Lehner will also face the pressure of facing his former team in the Senators.

‘Eich Daddy’ Burger highlights concession choices tonight

Per the Buffalo News: “The burger modifies the classic combo of all-beef patty, American cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato by throwing on Thousand Island dressing, guacamole and a fried egg. Sitting on a brioche roll, the burger is one of the bolder taste options in the corrugated cardboard-bound world of stadium eats.”

Eichel will make the transition from #41 to #15

Having worn #41 throughout the preseason until he “made the team”, Eichel will now transition to wearing his beloved #15 as the Sabres approach opening night.

Rex Ryan will be in attendance tonight

“It’s a big night in Buffalo tonight, said Ryan today while donning a Sabres jersey during his presser. “I’ll be there,” he added.
