The Notre Dame Hockey team overcame a tough Greece team on Tuesday night by a score of 3-1 behind another strong game from Freshman goaltender Ethan Conrad. Not only did the Irish have to defeat Greece yesterday, but they also found themselves up against a school-wide sickness that has effected several players on the team as well as their head coach. Just this afternoon, the Irish have 15 players sick from school, and coach Marc Staley is also out of commission for the day. It will be interesting to see if they can continue to battle through this going forward.

On Tuesday night, the Conrad-led Irish were able to earn a hard-fought victory at home by going 2/4 on the power play, as well as an impressive 3/3 on the penalty kill. In net, Conrad stopped all but one shot against Greece, including two break aways – one coming in the game’s final minutes.

The first of ND’s goals was scored by Ryan Antinore (2), who sparked the Irish offense just seven minutes into the game on the power play. Greece then answered right back a minute later in order to tie the score at one midway through the first.

During the second period Larry Infantino (1) was able to break through on the power play once again for ND and they regained the lead at 2-1. Following their second PP goal of the day, the Irish got their third and final goal from Freshman Grant Hens, which came on a great slap shot from the point. In the end, they would hold onto the 2-goal advantage and won the game going away.

With the win Notre Dame improves to 3-4 on the season and sits at third place in their division behind Geneseo and Rush, while they will look to climb even closer to the two leaders after a game against Geneva on Tuesday. The Irish will take the next couple of days to rest and recuperate, but will get back at it with a Friday practice prior to the weekend off.
