The Irish proved to be too much for Holley yesterday, as they opened up the game early, and ran away from the Hawks by the time the final buzzer sounded. It was a bittersweet victory for Notre Dame, as they will still miss the playoffs even with the win after completing a 4-3 season in the GR.

The game on Saturday began with a CJ Suozzi 18 yard touchdown run just two minutes into the game. Following a failed PAT, the Irish were ahead on the Hawks by a score of 6-0 early on, and would not look back the rest of the way.

Scoring again with 9:11 remaining in the second quarter, ND’s Jack Sutherland took a hard 4 yard run past the goal line and into the end zone for the game’s second touchdown. This time around the Irish tried a two-point conversion, but as Joe Zickl looked for Luca Zambito in the end zone, the Notre Dame QB came up just short and the score sat at 12-0 Irish.

Just five minutes later ND reached pay dirt once again, as this time Joe Zickl was able to connect on a nice pass to Zambito, who took it six yards for the score. Finally, the Irish PAT attempt was successful on Zambito’s touchdown, and the score had now been pushed to 19-0 with 4:10 remaining in the half.

To put the game away. the Irish would score once again with :51 seconds left in the second quarter, as Sutherland again found the end zone on a 5 yard run up the middle. At the end of the half, Notre Dame was leading 26-0, and the game was as good as over.

Unable to mount any sort of effort during the second half, the Hawks would lose the game by a score of 40-13.

The win concludes the regular season for Notre Dame, as they will move on to the consolation round in a weeks time. Unable to forge a consistent attack this season, the Irish came up just short in the postseason race for the first time in recent memory, and will look to improve as they progress into next year.
