Section V Hall of Famer Dick Diminuco has announced he will step down as head coach of the Pembroke Football program, due to personal reasons. “I guess I am just getting old,” said Diminuco to the Batavia Daily News.

The move is without a doubt shocking, as just two seasons into Diminuco’s effort to rebuild a fledgeling Pembroke program, the Dragons will now be forced to search for another man for the job. Although names such as Pembroke defensive coordinator Justin Loeber, who led the Pembroke program prior to Diminuco’s arrival, have come up as a possible replacement, I would imagine the Pembroke administration will take some time before announcing which direction they may go.

Although his time at Pembroke may have been short, Diminuco’s impact on his players and coaches has been undeniable.

“I have learned more about football this singular season than I ever knew thanks to Coach Dimunico,” said Pembroke sophomore QB Reid Miano a few weeks ago. “Coming into this year, my goal was to learn and I can say that I definitely did. I think the same can be said of all of the Sophomores that played varsity football. I believe this experience, and learning under Coach D, will be help our program in the long run. Coach D has been great for all of us.”

The 63-year old Diminuco was 4-13 in his two seasons with Pembroke, and is currently 16th all-time in Section V Football coaching victories.
