Having watched Owen throughout both the GR regular season and the Batavia Spring League during the past few years, one thing that has really stood out to me has been the way his game has expanded to all areas on the basketball court. Standing well over six-feet-tall, Thompson expectedly does nice work inside the paint for his team, but the Forward/Guard also handles the ball extensively and is the Blue Devils’ primary perimeter shooter. Only a Sophomore, with the skill set that Owen possesses, the sky is truly the limit for him. Here is his profile:

#24 Owen Thompson – Forward/Guard – Attica Boys Basketball

Height: 6’4″
Class: Sophomore

Favorite thing about high school sports: “My favorite thing about high school sports is being able to spend time with my friends, while playing the sport I love. Not only this, but I really enjoy the competitive aspect of high school sports.”

Most memorable moments of high school sports career: “One of my most memorable moments of my high school career so far has been playing Varsity Basketball as a Freshman. Not many kids have had the opportunity to play at the Varsity level at a young age, so I found it very exciting to play with the upperclassmen and learn more about the game from them. Another memorable moment of my sports career so far has been getting moved up to play Varsity Baseball for Sectionals last Spring.”

Future plans after high school: “Although I’m not 100% sure of what my plans are after high school, I have thought about continuing my education and majoring in Biology, in hopes of getting a job in the medical field some day. I would also love the opportunity to continue my basketball career at whatever school I attend.”

AB: Who inspired you to become a basketball player while you were growing up?

OT:My older brothers Steven and Bryan were easily the biggest inspiration for me to become a basketball player. Whether it be watching basketball with them, playing basketball in the driveway, or going to their games as a child, they have always pushed me to work as hard as possible to become the best player I can be.

AB: What obstacles have you faced up until this point in you athletic career? Have the challenges you have faced been directly linked to who you are as an athlete in any way?

OT: So far, I have been very lucky to never have faced any serious obstacles. I’m very blessed to have had limited challenges throughout my high school career and hope that I will never have to endure these challenges at any point in the future.

AB: How have the relationships that you have built effected your development as a player?

OT: The relationships that I have built have been very impactful on my development as a player. By building positive relationships with my coaches, teammates, teachers, family and friends, I have been able to have an overwhelming amount of support and help from all of these people in my life. By developing these relationships, it has not only helped me become a better player, but an overall well-rounded person.

AB: What do you do on your own in order to make yourself better?

OT: Personally, I try to make myself better by going to a variety of basketball camps throughout the summer and trying to play as much as possible. One camp that has helped me to get better is the Batavia Basketball Training Camp. At this camp all of my skills improved, especially my shooting skills. I think that by practicing as much as I can and working out, it helps me become the best basketball player I can be.

AB: In closing, where do you want basketball to take you when HS is over?

OT: When high school is over, I would love to have done well enough to be able to play at the college level. Although I’m not sure where I would like to play, being able to play the game after high school would be a dream come true.

I’m excited to continue to watch Owen progress as a player and an overall-athlete as he seems to be a great kid with a strong work ethic. Good luck to Owen and the entire Attica Boys Basketball team as they approach the stretch run of the season.
