Yesterday night it was reported that the Bills have hired Rob Ryan, twin brother of head coach Rex Ryan, to be their assistant head coach of defense (or something like that). This will be the second time the Ryan brothers will be a part of the same NFL coaching staff – as they both worked together previously for the Arizona Cardinals in ’94 and ’95 when their father Buddy was the head coach.
At first when I heard the news last night I thought, “What the hell?” But after thinking it over for a few hours, I began to think, “This is gonna be sweet.”
Even if it doesn’t work out, this has the potential to be either the most tremendous success or the biggest disaster the NFL has ever seen. On the one hand, if it does turn out to be a success, the story of the Bills and the Ryan brothers will forever be told throughout history – and on the other hand, if it doesn’t work out, it is sure to be the most epic disaster this side of their father punching Kevin Gilbride in the face on the sidelines years ago – and the story of the Bills and the Ryan brothers will forever be told throughout history.
In short, it is sure to be epic one way or the other.
Welcome to Buffalo, Rob. I can’t wait to see you.
