On Wednesday night, there were quite a few teams who were able to win their first round matchup and advance to the next stage of the Sectional Tournament. Here is what took place:

Class C1 – Pembroke 69 Sodus 45 – Youngster leads the Dragons

Pembroke was able to take care of Sodus from the very start yesterday, as they turned a 28-7 first quarter advantage into the eventual 24-point victory. Leading the Dragons was Freshman Olivia Kohorst, who finished with a total of 16 points in what I believe was her Sectional debut. Also assisting the Pembroke effort was Hannah Duttweiler who finished with 14 points, while Rylee Moser was right behind her with 13 of her own.

“Our press was working extremely well and we finished in transition,” said head coach Ron Funke following the game. “Our speed was the difference tonight.”

Class C1 – Notre Dame 55 Williamson 29 – Irish have no trouble moving on

The Irish absolutely demolished Williamson on Wednesday.

Although they did trail 3-2 to begin the game, ND wound up leading 33-4 after the first quarter and never looked back on their way to the 26-point victory.

Class C2 – Alexander 69 Red Jacket 35 – Trojans ease past the lower seed

It was an easy road for Alexander during their first round matchup with Red Jacket yesterday night, as they ended the night with a 34-point win. All twelve Trojans scored on Wednesday – which made their coach Marcia Hirsch very happy.

“The girls really did a nice job sharing the ball all night,” she said to begin her comments. “Our transition game really came alive. Hopefully we can continue our play this Saturday.”

Class C3 – York 43 Kendall 41 – Eagles fall just short

Coming down to the final possession last night, Kendall was simply unable to do enough to overcome a tough York team.

“The kids played hard,” said Kendall head coach Jeff Parizek. “I am very proud of them and their effort tonight. We had two shots at the end of the game when we were down one, and I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Tania Arellano led Kendall with a game-high 17 points in defeat.

Class C3 – Oakfield 49 Cuba 28 – Hornets advance easily

Oakfield didn’t find any difficulty in stomping Cuba on Wednesday, as they were able to drop the visiting team by 21 points.

“We got off to a great start both offensively and defensively,” said OA head coach Jeff Schlagenhauf following the game. “We were ahead 18-3 after the first quarter and it is a good start to Sectional play.”
