Getting off to a hot start on Friday night, the Wheatland-Chili Boys Basketball earned another huge victory over Elba, defeating the Lancers 67-50 behind 29 points from Tyler Roberts. The Wildcats scored 19 during the first quarter and wound up ahead by 11 points early on. Although they took a step back during the second, Wheatland would continue their onslaught during the second half and went on to win by a wide margin.

The 29 was a career-high for Roberts as a member of the Wildcats Varsity team, and he added to his impressive scoring output with 4 assists. Tyler went 11-18 from the field against the Lancers while finishing a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line and truly sparked his team’s victory throughout.

“Tyler was strong down the stretch,” said Wheatland head coach Scott Lund following the game. “He scored 12 points during the fourth quarter in order to help close things out for us.”

Also contributing for the Wildcats was Tyler’s brother Rodney, who dropped 25 points including 3 three-pointers. Daniel Cook and Justin McLendon (10 rebounds) each had 4 points as well.

For Elba it was another tough loss on Friday night as John Hochmuth put forth another fine effort in a losing effort with 22 points, while Dylan O’Halloran missed the game due to illness. After beginning the season with such promise against B-B, the Lancers (1-4) have now dropped four games in a row, including three Divisional matchups, and will be in major need of a victory going into their next game versus Barker.

The Wildcats move on to Attica on Tuesday for an early-evening game beginning with the JVs at 4:00 pm. Wheatland remains unblemished at 3-0 and will hold their share of the Divisional lead with Notre Dame.
