Several Devils score in victory     Alex Brasky | BataviasBest.org Thursday, February 5, 2015   The Batavia Hockey team was able to put forth a complete effort last night in their 5-3 win over Greece Arcadia/Olympia. Throughout the years ever since he was a young kid at Jr Blue Devils Basketball Camp (I briefly moonlighted as a volunteer referee), bearing witness to the strides that Jeff has taken in order to become the incredible player he is today has been nothing short of remarkable. Although his incredible size certainly has helped his efforts scoring the basketball for Batavia’s Varsity team, his vicious work ethic and his strong will to compete are what have carried him to such great heights during his time spent in the Blue and White. Throughout his efforts, on several occasions I have witnessed his impressive drive and competitiveness first-hand, whether it be competing against him in open gyms (I stink) where our team had no choice but to foul him every time he stepped foot inside the three-point line, or the treatment he gave my team during the Batavia Spring League when we went up against his team in the finals when he was a 9th grader. In said game, we played box-and-one on Jeff (yes I played box-and-one in a Spring League), yet he was still able to drop about 25 points to go with a double-digit rebounding effort, which propelled his team to a win. These two examples are just from my own personal experience, though there are many more out there to draw from (including a 51-point night against Irondequoit last Friday). In closing, I would not be surprised if we see Jeff at the Division I level in the near future and expect him to not only succeed in basketball, but all of his future off-the-court endeavors as well. Having had the pleasure to watch Rodney during both his HS season at Wheatland, as well as on the AAU circuit over the past few years, I have truly come to appreciate his ability to lead by example. Whereas playing on the same HS team as two of your brothers must be a rocky situation at times, Rodney seems to be the calming voice for the trio and has done a nice job leading the other members of his team as well. Not only has he done so using his fantastic ability and knack for scoring the basketball, but he also displays leadership through his ventures as a volunteer off the court. All in all, Rodney has been exciting to watch and is one of the most unique athletes that I have communicated with since we began Batavia’s Best. He undoubtedly has great things awaiting him in the future. Here is his profile:

Over the years that I have seen Tyler play basketball, what has impressed me most has been his vocal presence both on the court and from the bench. Although his emotion and passion for the game sometimes effect his strong ability to lead, for the most part, Tyler does a fine job sparking his team from the point guard position. Improving ten-fold since he was a youngster, Tyler is now capable to go off for 25+ points on any given night, however, his role in the offense has not called for him to do so as of late and he has done well serving as a facilitator on top of his scoring ability. Allowing fellow teammate Justin McLendon and his brother Rodney to take center stage offensively, Tyler has been the straw that stirs the drink for the Wildcats as they approach the final weeks of the season, and will likely be their X-factor come tournament time.
