Heading into tonight’s Le Roy vs Cal-Mum Football rivalry game, here are a few storylines that I feel will play a role in the outcome of the contest:

Mary Purdy vs Josh Roides: The kicking game is sure to play an important role in the outcome of this matchup. Both Purdy and Roides have shown the ability to nail extra points with unbelievable consistency throughout the season, while Roides has even been able to hit from about 30 yards out. Going into tonight I anticipate more of the same from each of them, however, as rain is expected throughout the day, perhaps there is a chance the wetness of the field and the football could present issues when lining up to kick tonight.

Nick vs Nick: The most important matchup in tonight’s contest will be, in my mind, Nick Egeling vs Nick Harmon. In order for the Knights to get rolling and assert themselves offensively, Egeling will be increasingly important in this game – as Cal-Mum has displayed exceptional defensive talent this season up front as well as in the secondary. On the other side, while their running game is no slouch, I believe the success of the Red Raiders’ passing game will be vital in their overall success as a team tonight. Le Roy’s run defense has been incredible at times and I think if there is anyway to open things up for C-M, it may be through the air.

New Era of the Rivalry: For years, Le Roy’s Brian Moran and Cal-Mum’s Mike Monacelli stalked the sidelines for their respective teams in this matchup. Now, with John Walther leading the way for the Red Raiders, and new Le Roy head coach Brian Herdlein leading the Knights, the faces involved in this rivalry have changed – but the dynamic between the two teams remains the same.

All Good Things Must End: After remaining intact for the past 83 years, there have been rumblings that this rivalry may come to an end after this season. Due to league realignment within the LCAA, neither side will play each other as a part of their divisional schedule going forward which will make it more difficult for this matchup to take place in the future. However, let’s all hope that somehow things work out and we continue to see Le Roy and Cal-Mum continue to play one another for years to come.

Enjoy the game tonight and, as always, tune in to @BB_Scores on Twitter for updates from around the league.
