The Attica football team is out to one heck of a start this year. Completing a near thirty point victory over the Hawks on Saturday afternoon, the Devils continued that hot start, and more. Going into Week 5, Attica is now 4-0 with all of their victories coming by two touchdowns or more.

Yesterday, to begin the game in the first quarter free safety Damien Marchetti picked off an errant throw and took it the distance to give his team an early lead. Following the PAT, the score was 7-0 Attica and once again they were off and running. Later in the quarter with 45 seconds remaining on the clock, the Blue Devils scored another touchdown and increased their lead to 14-0.

The Hawks were unable to get it going offensively following the second TD, and gave the ball back to Attica who immediately found the end zone for a third time. At this point the score was now 21-0 and the game was all but over as they approached halftime. When they reached the break, the score was 27-6 and the game eventually proved to indeed be out of reach for the Hawks.

The contest ended with a final score of 40-12 as the Blue Devils showed their true colors as a team who will have the opportunity to contend for the League and Sectional Title this season.

Stepping in for starting running back Jake Strzelec on Saturday, who has been out with an ankle sprain, Alex Piechocki did a masterful job filling the RB’s shoes. Carrying the ball 25 times, Piechocki accumulated 122 yards on the ground along with two scores while defensively, he also had a fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown. With three scores under his name in the box score, Piechocki will certainly be up for Player of the Week this week.

Adding to his effort, QB/FS Damien Marchetti also had a strong day on both sides of the ball.

To go with his INT return for a touchdown to begin the game, Marchetti was a beast running the ball. Averaging five yards per carry, the Attica QB scored a rushing touchdown for his second score of the day, and also had three completions for 35 yards in addition to a few kickoff returns for a total of 45 yards. To put it plainly, Marchetti was all over the field on Saturday and did a nice job contributing when his team needed him to. Head coach Rob Cusmano spoke to his QB’s leadership this past week and he truly displayed just that against the Hawks.

Rounding out the list of Attica’s top performers on offense was Nick Shadbolt, who spelled Piechocki nicely throughout the game with 64 yards and a TD on 11 carries. Defensive stars for Attica were Phil Wilshire with 8 total tackles, 1 1/2 sacks, and a fumble recovery, Levi Snyder with 5 1/2 tackles, and the aforementioned Marchetti with four tackles.

All in all it was a complete team performance for the Blue Devils. Using their high-powered offense, snot-nosed defense, and sound special teams, Attica stomped Cardinal O’Hara yesterday and have put together quite the impressive list of victories thus far.

“We played very well, especially on defense,” said Attica head coach Rob Cusmano following the win. “I thought Piechocki, Marchetti, Wilshire, and our whole offensive line played extremely well, too. Strzelec did not play and I would consider him very questionable for next week. I thought our defensive play and offensive line push were the most important factors in our win.”

Next up for Attica will be a huge matchup with Elba (3-1), which will be for the League lead.
