The Batavia Baseball team went 1-1 in their double-header yesterday afternoon, falling to Canandaigua 7-2, while defeating Alden 11-8. Highlighting the list of top-performers for the Blue Devils was shortstop Alex Canty.
Reaching base 7/8 times he came to bat yesterday, Canty recorded 5 walks, a hit by pitch, and a base hit in which he also recorded an RBI, while also swiping two stolen bases. All in all, it was a huge day for the first-year Varsity player.
Against Alden, Tyler Hale led the Devils with 3 hits, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored, while in their loss to Canandaigua, Ryan Mullen recorded the only multi-hit game for his team including an RBI.
The trouble for Batavia this season throughout the games they have lost has been their inability to put forth consistent starting pitching, as well as quality innings out of the bullpen. On Saturday for example, the Devils pitching staff gave up 21 walks and 10 hits in two games. Going forward, they must clean up their performance from the mound if they hope to beat good teams down the stretch of the season.
Next up for the Devils is Irondequoit on Monday.
Stay tuned for more results this morning.
