Bouncing back off their tough loss to Attica last week, the Lancers have been working hard in practice in order to get back to their winning ways versus the Hawks. Sitting at 3-2 entering their first non-league game of the year, the Lancers must right the ship this week if they hope to make a run at the postseason.
As far as the Hawks are concerned, they come into this matchup with a mediocre 2-3 record following a blowout loss to Attica in Week 4. Out of Section VI, Cardinal O’Hara has crossed over to play several Section V teams this season with varying success during each contest. Although the Hawks possess apparent athleticism along with plenty of size, they have been unable to put the two aspects together on a consistent basis this year.
In order for the Lancers to overcome their non-league opponent, Steele Truax and Mike Shanley will be extremely important.
Elba’s offense has been unable to score with regularity the past few weeks, and although they aren’t worried, I am starting to become concerned they won’t be able to get it going when they need to down the stretch. However, possessing two quality backs in Shanley and Truax, along with a high-ceiling passing game involving Garrett Chappell and John Hochmuth, the Lancers will have the opportunity to ramp up their effort tonight.
In the first night game in Byron-Bergen High School history, I expect the emotion of tonight’s game to play a major role. With Elba guaranteed to draw a huge crowd tonight, the Lancers will likely ride the wave and walk away with the victory. Give me the home team here.
Prediction: Elba 16 Cardinal O’Hara 10
