Going into his first season as Attica’s head baseball coach this season, Shawn Fomwiller likely did not know what to expect. However, as we approach his first postseason as Blue Devils’ manager, Fromwiller views this year as an overall success.

Now, with plenty of work left to be done, the Attica HC is hoping his team’s pride as a group will aid them in their quest for Sectional success.

AB: What sparked your interest in coaching the baseball team this year?

SF: “I am a huge fan of the game of baseball.  I’ve played and coached at various levels all my life. I felt that my experience and expertise would be a good attribute to the program here at Attica.

AB: Has it been everything you thought it would be?

SF: Yes I have enjoyed my first year as head coach of the Attica Blue Devils.  We have had a roller coaster season, winning some big games and losing some games that we shouldn’t have.  But overall it’s been a fun and learning experience.”

AB: What goals did you set for yourself, and your team at the beginning of the year? Have you accomplished those goals?

SF: “Our main goal was to win the League Title this year.  We came up a little short with that goal, but we battled with the top teams and beat them.  I’m proud of the games that we did win.

AB: Going forward after this season, what is something you hope to accomplish with this program? In other words, what is your long-term vision for the program?

SF: “I wanted to create a vision within the baseball program here at Attica.  A vision of success and working hard.  I want to be on the same page from Modified to Varsity.  To create a well-rounded program here.

AB: Who has been most-influential for you throughout your journey to becoming a coach?

SF: “My high school football, basketball, and baseball coach.  He was a big part of my life throughout high school and still is.

AB: Now on the other hand, in terms of your coaching style, what do you hope is most-influential when it comes to your players? In other words, would you like them to be influenced by your hard work? Your love for the game? Etc..

SF: I would like for them to play the game with class and win with pride.  To work hard and never give up.

AB: Now aside from yourself and your values, how do you feel playing at Attica has influenced the kids on the team? In other words, why is it special to be an Attica Blue Devil and what impact does that have on how they play on the field?

SF: “I feel that there is a great sense of pride here at Attica.   The student/athletes really work hard for their sports teams and coaches.  This carries over to success on the field.”

AB: Finally, what will be most-important for this year’s team to focus on going forward – approaching the postseason – and beyond?

SF: “We are back to getting healthy again.  We need to stay focused, healthy, and continue to work hard.”
