Prior to tonight’s matchup with the Wildcats, I was able to ask Elba head coach Tom Redband about his team’s journey through the tourney – and throughout the season as a whole. Here is what he had to say:

AB: How proud are you of the fact that this group is advancing to the Sectional Finals?

TR: Anytime you have a chance to play for the Sectional Championship, it’s a tremendous opportunity. This group has stuck together and come together as a team, that’s what makes me proud.

AB: Have there been any specific factors that have pushed you to this point?

TR: We have played a lot of tough games this year that involved making adjustments in-games, while coming back from early deficits. At the time, you always want to win by 20 or 30 and be in command the whole game, but in the end, having tough games and persevering only makes us better, and develops our character as a team.

AB: Has there been any individual/individuals that have taken on the leadership role on your way to the Finals?

TR: There has been an interesting development of different leaders, from Freshman, right on up to the Seniors – who have been more vocal and are leading by example. We have become a true team.

AB: At the beginning of the season, did you see yourselves at this point?

TR: We did as a team, but very few others gave us a chance.

AB: What will it take to bring home the win tonight?

TR: We need to take care of ourselves first and simply play our game. Nothing special, no gimmicks, just sound basketball.

During his brief time at Elba, Tom has already given two talented teams reasonable chances at a Sectional Title. Hopefully for he and the Lancers they can come through and defeat a tough J-T team this evening.
