The Elba Boys Basketball team turned Union Street into their home gym on Thursday night. Behind a raucous crowd, intensity on defense, and hot shooting, the Lancers worked the Irish by a final score of 52-40; but the game really wasn’t all that close.
Ahead 20-5 after the first quarter, and 34-11 at the end of the first half, Elba came out like gangbusters vs Notre Dame and truly never looked back.
Leading the way to Elba’s 12-point victory over the Irish were Henry Pflaumer (14 points) and John Hochmuth (13 points), who both scored in double figures while also leading their team defensively. Here are a few highlights from Hochmuth’s night on defense:

For Notre Dame in defeat, although 10 players were able to record points, none of which were able to exceed double figures – with Luca Zambito leading the team with 7.
Despite playing a complete game for all 32 minutes on Thursday, perhaps the most impressive part of Elba’s game against ND was the energy that their crowd provided them from the opening tip. Right away the ‘Maroon Platoon’ was in full force and, in my opinion, certainly affected this game in a major way.
In addition, the win must have felt extra gratifying for Elba as head coach Ciaci Zambito previously spent time helping the Notre Dame program in year’s past, and Lancers assistant Vinney Zambito actually attended ND and graduated as one of their top players in recent memory.
Going forward, Elba will look to carry their momentum into a matchup with Wheatland-Chili next Wednesday. Notre Dame heads to Cardinal O’Hara tonight for a rare back-to-back.
