The Elba Softball team won the Alexander Softball Tournament yesterday, after a 16-1 blowout win over Alden in the first round led the Lancers to a Finals appearance against the host Trojans. In the Championship round, Elba again limited their opponent to just a single tally, and defeated Alexander 7-1 in order to become Tournament Champs.

“It was a total team effort by everyone today,” said Elba head coach Steve Chiocco following the game. “Everyone contributed. Only 2 errors and 17 hits on the day.”

Leading the way for the Elba offense yesterday was Madison Howard, who finished with 4 hits in 8 at bats – including 3 doubles, a home run, and 2 RBI. Carli Bogue also had what her coach termed a ‘monster day’ in the circle and at the plate, collecting 4 hits and 6 RBI in 7 at bats, while also earning two victories as the Lancers’ starting pitcher. She was honored as the tournament MVP for her incredible performance.

For Alexander in their loss in the Championship game, the Trojans were held to just 8 hits, while Carli Marino took the loss in the circle. In the Trojans’ opening round win over Barker, the Trojans collected 22 hits – with every starter recording at least one hit. Hannah Paolucci recorded the big day in that game, picking up 4 hits, including a pair of doubles, and 4 RBI. Marino struck out 9 vs Barker in order to pick up the win.

Both teams play again tomorrow, Elba is now 6-1 overall and unbeaten within the GR League. Alexander is 4-2 overall, and 2-1 within the league.
