Lauren Burke

Byron-Bergen Volleyball

Year: Freshman

Favorite thing about HS Sports: “The opportunity to form a close bond with your team. It’s like a family.”

AB: What has gone into your success at such a young age? Being on Varsity as a Freshman and being able to contribute is a big deal.

LB: “Probably the biggest reason is having coach D’Errico for the last three years. She is a phenomenal coach who has helped me improve so much. Also playing volleyball in the offseason at VolleyFX for the last three years has taught me a lot and helped me become a better setter.

AB: Has it been difficult fitting in with the older girls? If not, what have they done to make you more comfortable?

LB: “It hasn’t been difficult at all. I have been really lucky to have amazing teammates this year and last on Varsity. Even though I’m younger I always feel included in everything we do. I’ve grown to be really close friends with many of them and they really are like family to me. I love my team.”

AB: Speaking of your team, how confident are you girls that you can win tomorrow against a tough Midlakes team?

LB: “We watched video of Midlakes in practice today and they look like a strong team, but we know if we play consistently and together, we can win.  We had a team dinner tonight and I know we are all looking forward to the challenge tomorrow.”

AB: What else do you know about Midlakes?

LB: “We know that they have beaten some stronger teams this year, and they have a very good outside hitter named CeCe Cordero. But I have confidence that if we play well we will be successful.

AB: What has made you girls so successful this year? What would be one thing that has really helped you?

LB: “Our coach Cindy D’Errico has helped us improve a ton throughout the year and prepares us very well for every game. We have also become really close as a team through team dinners and other events which I feel helps us on the court as well.”

AB: Last question – how important to you is it to send the Seniors off on a positive note?

LB: “It is really important to the whole team. We all love our Seniors – Erin, Abbie and Sadie – and we want to keep their High School Volleyball careers going as long as possible.”

As a whole the Byron-Bergen Volleyball team has been performing incredibly well over the past few weeks. Going into their matchup with Midlakes tonight, they will need to continue to do just that.
