While several athletes put on fantastic displays over the weekend, three individual performances stood out to me the most. Here are my Players of the Week:

Steele TruaxElba – 110 yards rushing / 2 rushing TDs / 12 tackles

Elba vs Pembroke handshake pregame

For the second week in a row, a Lancers running back makes my Players of the Week.

Going off for over 100 yards and 2 scores versus Holley on Saturday, Truax carried the mail for the Lancers following an injury to other top-back Mike Shanley. A week ago Shanley led Elba to a sound victory over Pembroke, but with the huge day from Truax his efforts were not necessary in Week 2. Going forward, other than Attica’s Jake Strzelec, I believe the Lancers possess the best two running backs in the GR League. With the size, speed and agility that the duo has shown thus far, it will be difficult for any defense to slow them down if they are to remain healthy.

Dom MogaveroBatavia – 108 yards rushing / 3 rushing TDs

Batavia vs Wellsville run

After some tough sledding early in the game during Week 1 against Livonia, Dom Mogavero had his break out game in Week 2.

On only 10 carries, Mogavero torched the Wellsville Lions for over 100 yards on the ground while also taking 3 of those carries for touchdowns. Running between the tackles with incredible success throughout, Mogavero was unstoppable on Saturday night and if he is able to continue his strong play, will provide his team with a nice compliment to a successful passing game.

Nick Shadbolt – Attica – 82 yards rushing / 3 rushing TDs

Attica vs Pembroke tackle

Taking over for the injured Jake Strzelec, Nick Shadbolt had an incredible game in Pembroke on Friday night.

On 14 total carries, Shadbolt ran for 82 yards on the ground versus a tough Pembroke front, and also put up 3 touchdowns. Strzelec, although being out for the entire second half offensively, was still able to gain 104 yards and score a touchdown during the first half of play, but Shadbolt made his absence seem like a non-factor.
