The Notre Dame Volleyball team was able to knock off Batavia last night in what was a very entertaining and exciting contest. The Irish wound up winning the match 3 sets to 1, with each set being tightly contested. As expected, there was a massive turnout by fans of both schools on Tuesday night, as the stands inside of the Batavia High School gymnasium were filled to the top.

As I mentioned in the match preview, Notre Dame’s size played a major role in this victory. Led by Shea Norton, they were able to put a screeching halt to any momentum gained by the Devils throughout the night, using huge kills that seemed to have a deflating effect time, after time.  It seemed as though every time Batavia was gaining momentum, the Irish would come up with a timely kill and instantly shift momentum back in their favor. On the other side, Batavia struggled to string points together because of this and ultimately fell short because of it.

Overall, the match was very well-played on both sides and the energy in the gym was electric.  For now, Notre Dame will gain bragging rights in this ongoing cross-town rivalry, but this will certainly not be the last we hear of the matchup between schools this year.
