Going into this weekend, I knew nothing about the Nichols Vikings. After spanning the internet, this is what I have found:

In Week 1, the Vikings were unable to overcome a tough Cardinal O’Hara team losing the game 28-6. During the loss Nichols displayed a heavy reliance on the run game, rushing a total of 42 times spread between four different players. Leading the Vikings’ attack against CO was Steve Glinski, who ran 18 times for 67 yards.

Glinski, a Senior, will be joined by fellow running backs Mercy Cox-Hicks and Ken Williams who also toted the rock more than 10 times a week ago. After going against a heavy running attack which Notre Dame displayed against them in Week 1, I expect the Hornets to be prepared this Saturday and also believe they will do extremely well against the Vikings.

As far as the OA offense is concerned, they will be faced with the task of eluding several good tacklers in the green and white. Highlighting their effort on defense during Week 1, Mercy Cox-Hicks recorded an interception for Nichols which turned out to be a turning point in the game, despite the loss.

Using several underclassmen in their starting lineup the Vikings will be faced with a tough challenge of defeating an experienced Oakfield squad tomorrow afternoon. If the Hornets’ are able to dominate the game up front, and continue to play solid defense, I believe they will walk away from this one as a 2-0 football team.

“Our new defense for this year has really helped us a lot,” said QB Allen Chatt this afternoon, “With our team being naturally fast, it fits us perfectly.”
