Batavia vs Livonia Greg snap

Greg Mruczek

Batavia Football – Quarterback

Year: Junior

Post-graduation plans: Plans on going to school for Physical Education and Coaching. Hopes to become a PE teacher one day as well as a coach.

Favorite thing about HS sports: “The fact that you only go through it once in your life and that you need to make the most of it. You get close to the people around you that are on your team, especially in football, they are like my second family.”

AB: What is your team’s ultimate goal this season?

GM: “The ultimate goal of our team is to win a Sectional Title. We have a very good team this year and a lot of athletes. I really think we can do it if we keep our eye on the goal.”

AB: Going forward, what are you guys planning to do in order to progress towards that goal?

GM: “Continue to grind and fight and continue to work hard every day in practice in order to become closer as a team.”

AB: Being such a close-knit group who gets along so well, what has this team meant to you?

GM: “It means so much. I mean, this is the closest I have ever felt as a team in any high school sport that I have ever played. We really get along and have accepted our roles on the team this year.”

AB: Along with your teammates, what have your coaches meant to your success individually this season?

GM: “Everything. I think they have been doing a great job game planning each week and we really understand what they have been coaching, and that is a testament to them. As for me, they have taught me everything I know about the game and they have worked really hard with me to make me an all-around better player.”

AB: Outside of the locker room, who has influenced you the most in your journey to become a starting quarterback for Batavia?

GM: “A lot of it has been my parents. They push me to be successful in whatever I do in life and they have really provided great guidance for me my whole life.

AB: Last question: What does Batavia football mean to you?

GM: “It means a lot, really. I’m just trying to do the best I can to put this program back on the right track.

Can the 2014 Blue Devils be the team that changes the fortune of Batavia football going forward? In Mruczek’s eyes, the answer is yes.
