The Trojans proved to be too much for the Dragons on Friday night as they improved to 4-2 on the season, and improved their chances of reaching the postseason. The victory marks the third consecutive for Alexander as they will look to continue their hot streak against Elba next week.

Friday’s contest started slow, but with 6:44 remaining in the first quarter, the Trojan’s Tristan Aldinger was able to break the seasl by scoring a 5-yard touchdown shortly after a terrific run by Jake Wozniak to get the ball within striking distance. Following the PAT, the score was 7-0 Alexander.

With 3:27 left in the second quarter, the Dragons would wake up. Following a huge interception which was returned 40 yards into Alexander territory, Pembroke found themselves faced with a goal-to-go situation hoping to tie the game.

With time ticking down under a minute, Dragons’ QB Mitch Lewter would convert the turnover into points, as he found Dakota Swimline for a 12-yard touchdown pass in the end zone. After a failed PAT, however, Alexander still led 7-6 and halftime was upon us.

Just as did the first half, the second half of the game started slow for both sides. With seven minutes passing by before either team found the opportunity to score, it was the combination of Aldinger and Wozniak once again breaking through for the Trojans.

This time around with 4:45 left to go in the third quarter, Aldinger would advance the ball all the way down the field and inside the red zone in order to set up his backfield-mate who carried the ball 10 yards for the score. After another successful PAT the score was 14-6 Alexander and the Dragons were in need of another score.

Despite their best effort, though, Pembroke failed to find the end zone for the remainder of the game and wound up losing the game 17-6. Although they fought hard and made several big plays as they have all season long, the Dragons were once again unable to finish and fell as a result.

Leading the Trojans in this one were a slew of impressive performances – but none more impressive than Junior Jake Wozniak.

Our Player of the Game in Week 5’s Game of the Week, Wozniak continued his strong play as of late, toting 28 carries on Friday night for a total of 208 yards and a touchdown. Adding to his impressive offensive display, the RB/LB also added 6 tackles on defense as well as a sack of the Dragons’ QB. Wozniak has been Alexander’s most valuable player in their past few games, and will be called upon to continue his strong play next week.

In addition to his partner, Aldinger also had a nice night out of the backfield. Taking 10 carries for a mediocre 24 yards, the elusive running back was able to find the end zone, which made up for his unusual yards per carry average. On special teams for Alexander, Zack Shilvock had a nice day as well as he converted both of his extra point attempts while also making a 36 yard field goal to clinch the game.

Defensively for the Trojans Cody Trzecieski and Aldinger each came up with the big plays, recording an interception a piece versus the Dragons, while Derrick Busch led the team in tackles with 7 (1 sack) and Dustin Schmeider and Wozniak each added six.

With the win, Alexander remains in a tie for second place with Elba, who they face next week.
