It all came crashing down for the Alexander Football team this past weekend in the NYSPHSAA Class D Far West Regional, as the previously undefeated Trojans were run roughshod over by Section VI representative Clymer/Sherman/Panama by the final score of 29-6.
Alexander never had a chance in this one, as non-existent offense and porous defense gave way to the Wolfpack, who will now move on to the state semifinal.
The lone bright spot in the Trojans’ lopsided loss was junior WR/QB Ty Woods, who scored the lone touchdown for his team as time expired, and totaled over 100 rushing yards for the game. Standout RBs Chris McClinic, and Terrez Smith were each held in check by CSP and combined for just 31 total rushing yards on 20 carries.
Saturday’s defeat was more than just that, as it represented the end of what was another great run for the Trojans – a run which they were certain would end no earlier than the state final four. The disappointment was palpable on the Alexander sideline as time winded down, with fans expressing their displeasure, and the players and coaches coming to the realization that their season was indeed over.
Despite the tough loss, though, what this team accomplished this season won’t soon be forgotten.
In addition, I imagine they’ll be back ready to defend their title, and more, next year.
