After 80 years and more than 50 consecutive matchups between Le Roy Football and Cal-Mum, there is no way that Section V can take this rivalry away.

Last night in Cal-Mum the Le Roy Football team got off to a slow start vs a tough Red Raiders team, but through a tough defensive performance that included three interceptions, the Knights battled their way to a win by the final score of 21-3.

Scoring first in this contest was in fact Cal-Mum, who completed a long drive early-on with a Josh Roides field goal which gave them the first lead of the game at 3-0 with 10:14 to go in the first quarter. Scoring next would be Le Roy, as minutes into the second quarter Nick Egeling would intercept Cal-Mum QB Nick Harmon and return the pick 45 yards for a touchdown – making the score 7-3 Knights (PAT was good).

Following the touchdown, plenty of time would go by without either side finding the end zone again, until two long touchdown passes from Le Roy quarterback Josh Laurie to Nate Flint just before the halftime break pushed the score to 21-3 in favor of the Knights (PATs were good). With LR now up by three possessions heading into the second half, Cal-Mum was faced with an uphill climb that I’m sure they didn’t expect heading into the game.

In response to the steep deficit that was created in the first half, the Red Raiders would get shut out over the final two quarters of play – eventually dropping the big game 28-3 to the Knights – who really needed this win following back-to-back losses. Now for Cal-Mum, looking at consecutive losses of their own, it will be interesting to see how they respond next week.

Sparking the Knights in victory last night was undoubtedly their quarterback Josh Laurie. Finishing with 3 touchdowns on the night, Laurie compiled 157 yards through the air on 5 of 7 passing, while also running 8 times for 13 yards. Laurie’s top-target was Nate Flint, who caught the two touchdown passes for a total of 137 yards receiving.

Running back Nick Sims had 24 carries for 105 yards for Cal-Mum, while Nick Harmon threw 20 passes, completing 6 – including 3 interceptions.

Next up for the Red Raiders (3-2) will be Bolivar-Richburg next week, while Le Roy (3-2) will take on Livonia.
