Here is my 2016 Season Preview for the Batavia Girls Soccer Team:

———-

Last Year’s Record: 8-9

Head Coach: Roger Hume

Key Players: Maggie Cecere, Claire Zickl, Sophia Dinehart, and Paige Hameister will all be important in the field for the Devils, while Bri Janes will work the anchor as the team’s goalie. Cecere, a forward, earned 1st team Monroe County League honors a season ago, while Zickl, and Dinehart each finished the year as 2nd Team All-MC honorees.

Key Opponents: Batavia believes all of their Monroe County League Div 4 opponents will be tough, along with Pittsford Sutherland and Way-Co.

Season Outlook: “Our entire team is very positive about this year,” said Batavia head coach Roger Hume, “and we are focused on improving on last year’s 8-9 record. With our returning starters and newcomers we are pushing for 10-6 or 11-5 regular season record, along with hosting and winning our 1st round sectional game.

Based on the stats of the teams in the top 5 of Section V Class A our focus is on Goals against (GA).  We need our GA below 20 to be competitive when it comes to sectionals. We have goal scorers and we have a returning backline, what we need is the mindset that the mids and forwards need to be the primary defenders and the backline needs hold their shape and hold the line. We will be working on this style of play all season.”

Based on their strong group of returning players, as well as the new blood on the roster, Batavia Girls Soccer should be able to improve upon their overall record from a season ago.
