The Section V Girls Volleyball season kicked off last week, as 13 local squads began their regular season trek. Who will finish the year as Champion? Here is my 2017 HS Girls Volleyball Season Preview:
Alexander
Head Coach: Emilee Piechocki
Record Last Season: Awaiting access to submission
Key Players: Awaiting access to submission
Season Outlook: The Trojans are consistently a competitive program and under a second-year head coach they hope to take steps forward in 2017.
Attica
Head Coach: Mike Jansma
Record Last Season: 11-6
Key Players: Claudia Hardie, Kaylee Anderson, Haley Hardie, Taylor Gadd
Season Outlook: The Blue Devils start only two seniors, but still have high expectations for themselves in 2017. Their goals are simple, finish atop the GR League, and make it to the sectional finals.
Batavia
Head Coach: Jeremy Mettler
Record Last Season: Not submitted
Key Players: Taylor Stefaniak, Ryann Stefaniak, Courtney Yasses
Season Outlook: The Blue Devils enter 2017 as a team in transition, as they must endure a few moving pieces earning their way into the roles provided for them this season. For, Batavia lost a bit from a year back, with a few key seniors departing via graduation. However, with an experienced head coach leading the way, and numerous talented athletes returning to the fold, this undersized Batavia team is likely to experience their share of success.
Byron-Bergen
Head Coach: Cindy D’Errico
Record Last Season: 17-2
Key Players: Lauren Burke, Quinn Chapell, Catherine Brumsted, Stephanie Buell, Madison Farnsworth, Annabella Vurraro, Janae Meister, Riley Sadler
Season Outlook: The Bees fell in the Class C2 Finals last season, but return a multitude of athletes and hope to make a run at the title once again in 2017.
Cal-Mum
Head Coach: Dave Tyler
Record Last Season: 22-2
Key Players: Andrea Coyle, Cierra Wells, Katie Harmon, Kara Kingsbury, Hannah Rubinrott
Season Outlook: The Red Raiders won a Sectional Title last season, and will look to defend that, and their League Title in 2017. If they are able to stay healthy, I would expect this team to be the favorite once again in Class C2.
Holley
Head Coach: Kate Connor
Record Last Season: 6-15
Key Players: Ava Kohut, Allison Howard, Nicole Mrzywka
Season Outlook: The Hawks understand they will endure a difficult league schedule this season, and expect to be competitive with 9 seniors in tow.
Le Roy
Head Coach: Kelly Tyler
Record Last Season: 18-3
Key Players: Taylor Sherman, Ava Vescovi, Emily Leone, Julie Prinz, Jaidyn Smith, Riley Pasquale
Season Outlook: The Knights won a Sectional Title last season, but fell to Cal-Mum in the Class C crossover game. Expect this team to be out for vengeance in 2017.
Lyndonville
