The Wheatland-Chili Girls Basketball team has struggled offensively as of late, now having lost their past two games – failing to eclipse 37 points in each contest. This time around on Wednesday night it was Elba doing the honors, as the Lancers defeated the Wildcats by a final score of 46-31.
For Elba, since the return of Alex Reigle last week, their entire season outlook has done a complete 180, as they now look forward to a possible Sectional run with their top player back in the fold. Along with Reigle, Emily Reynolds has really broken out for the Lancers this season and will certainly provide a nice compliment to her counterpart down the stretch.
In last night’s game vs Wheatland, Reigle (16) and Reynolds (14) combined for 30 of Elba’s 46 total points and will likely continue to produce similar results as the season progresses to its conclusion.
For the Wildcats in the loss, Taylor Clar scored 12 points in a disappointing performance overall for the GR League-leader. W-C failed to top double-digit points in the final three quarters in what is perhaps their worst offensive showing of the season.
In any event, however, Wheatland still has a bit of time left to regain their footing heading into Sectionals, and I expect them to take advantage. As far as Elba is concerned, keep an eye on this team over the next week or so – they could turn some heads.
