Down 12-2 to begin the game last night, it seemed as if the Elba Boys Basketball team was in for a tough battle vs a gritty Oakfield team in the Hornets home gym. However, unfortunately for the Hornets, the Lancers regained their footing late in the first quarter and truly never looked back – winning the game by a final score of 56-40.

The second and third quarter are what killed Oakfield’s chances vs Elba, as they managed just 10 points against the Lancers 39 – which essentially ended the game going into the fourth quarter. During that span, Tucker Bezon, Henry Pflaumer, and John Hochmuth propelled Elba’s offense, as the trio scored all but ten of their team’s points.

Hochmuth finished as the game’s top-scorer, as the Hornets simply did not have a matchup for him on the defensive end. The Lancers big man scored 19 points on the night to go with 7 rebounds and 5 blocks (league leader), and was followed closely behind by 13 total from Pflaumer (5 assists) and 11 from Bezon (8 rebounds).

For Oakfield in the tough loss, Trey Nadolinski continued to be the straw that stirs the drink per say, finishing with 7 rebounds and 4 assists in addition to 5 points. In total, 9 Oakfield players scored on the night – but none made it to double digits.

With the win, Elba will now remain on top of the GR League Standings, while Oakfield will fall to second place in Division I.
