Pembroke vs Holley 5

Cal Neurohr

Pembroke Football – RB

Year: Senior

Post-high school plans: Attend a 4-year college and study Exercise Science or Physical Therapy. Perhaps play football.

AB: Last week, in a game where nothing seemed to go right for you guys, you still didn’t quit. What has kept you guys working hard no matter what the circumstances?

CN: “I believe the Juniors, who are the majority of our team, just want to help give us Seniors a season we won’t want to regret or forget. We are a close family like that.”

AB: You mentioned ‘Dragon Pride’ in our previous conversation. Describe what goes into having such a great sense of pride in your school?

CN: “Pretty much just knowing that we have had great teams in the past. Knowing that just makes you want to succeed even more just like they have.”

AB: Who has been the leader of your team this year, sparking that sense of pride, and providing you guys with the energy to keep going?

CN: “Our defensive coach, coach Loeber, has honestly. Mainly because he’s been there and knows all about Pembroke tradition. He really just knows how to get our team motivated and helps us keep fighting.”

AB: Individually, you’ve had a lot of success this year despite the overall results for your team. What has been most influential to your success as a runner?

CN: “Just working hard in the off season. I had a broken wrist coming out of last season so that just influenced me to perform and out do myself in terms of getting back into physical shape; along with going to a few camps over the summer.

AB: Other than teammates and coaches, has there been anyone along that way that has pushed you towards reaching your goals?

CN: “My mom all the way. She helps me with everything whether it be calling (college) coach’s, helping me with SAT’s, or driving me to camps. My mom actually got me and the rest of my siblings into soccer at an early age and that just sparked the fun I had with sports. Next thing I know I want to play football and any other sports that looked interesting to me, including track and wrestling.

AB: Last question, in your last few games as a Dragon, what do you hope to accomplish?

CN: “Well, a win would be great (laughing) considering it is my senior year, and just having good games along with knowing I can look back on them knowing I did my best and gave it my all.

Pembroke’s Cal Neurohr has really impressed me on the field during the three games that I have watched him tote the rock this season. Possessing speed and strength that ranks up there with the other top backs in the GR league, the bruising Neurohr has provided the Dragons with something to hang their hat on, on any given down throughout the year. Although Pembroke remains winless and doesn’t have an “easy” game left on their schedule, Neurohr will continuously give his team a chance in each contest and I am certain group success will come sooner rather than later to this young team.
