Winner between Eagles and Trojans will move on to face winner of Dundee-Red Jacket

Kendall lost to Class B2 #2 seed North Rose-Wolcott earlier this season during the MLK Classic at MCC.

Tonight at 7:00 pm in Class C2, #5 Kendall (14-5) and #12 Alexander (6-13) will meet in a first round Sectional game – with the victor moving on to face whoever comes out of the #4 Dundee (15-3) and #13 Red Jacket (5-13) first round matchup. If the winner between the Trojans’ and Eagles’ indeed goes on to win their second round game as well, they will then move on to face #1 Cal-Mum (18-1) – who I expect will handle the winner of #8 Clyde-Savannah (10-8) and #9 Campbell Savona/Bradford (11-8) during their quarterfinal matchup on Friday night.

Beneath the aforementioned teams, #2 Red Creek (16-2), #3 Canisteo-Greenwood (18-1), #6 Geneseo (13-6), #7 Perry (12-7), #10 Letchworth (8-10), #11 South Seneca (7-12), and #14 Warsaw (0-19) will all battle it out in order to determine the other finalist.

When the dust settles I expect Cal-Mum to emerge as the winner of their Class Championship, as after watching the Raiders in a few games this season I have become increasingly impressed.

C-M possesses quality players at each position which has allowed them to play an up-tempo style, a challenge for many teams on their schedule, and in addition, Will Van Auken – the Raiders’ big man – has displayed all-around talent which will likely present a bad matchup for any team during the Sectional Tournament. Against Wheatland-Chili late in the year, the 6’5″ Senior Forward truly made an impact on me through his ability to strike from several spots on the floor and is sure to challenge opponents in many ways both offensively and defensively over the next few weeks.

Like the Raiders, Red Creek is also rumored to have a tough team. Led by 6’3″ guard Jake Slobe (25 ppg average), the Rams will likely draw a tough matchup with Perry during the second round, but if they are to get past the Yellow Jackets I expect them to have a good chance at the Championship.

In an underdog role, beware of Kendall in Class C2, who may be able to spark a run behind their two Senior leaders – Mookie Nauden and Will Condo.

Canisteo-Greenwood plays a weaker schedule but finished the season with just one loss and is a team to watch as well.
